Heavy rain predicted for SA this week, with falls of up to 50 millimetres tipped

The driest agricultural areas in the state look set to enjoy their heaviest falls in months this week, with up to 30 millimetres forecast to fall across areas including the Riverland and Murraylands.

There were already some good falls in isolated areas of the state at the weekend, with Port Lincoln and Cape Jaffa recording 10 millimetres and Streaky Bay 7 millimetres.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Mark Anolak said that was just a sign of the good rainfall to come this week.

Upper South East farmer Neville Kernick said while crop growth had been good, feed supplies were still minimal.

“We had some good opening rain in early May, and since then it’s stayed quite wet,” he said.

“But we’re still pretty tight for sheep feed. We started the season from such a low point with feed, because it was so dry for so long over summer.”
